Nutbrook Group achieves ISO9001 accreditation

The team at Nutbrook Engineering Group has proudly achieved ISO9001 accreditation for the development of its Quality Management System (QMS), outlining company policies and procedures.

While Nutbrook Group established its own QMS long ago, putting the system under the International Organisation for Standardization’s (ISO) microscope allowed the team to take a fresh look at their policies and objectively test the rationale behind each one.

The ISO9001 standard is based on seven quality management principles that are inherent in the way Nutbrook Group supports its clients and approaches each project, including:

  • customer focus
  • leadership
  • engagement of people
  • process approach
  • improvement
  • evidence-based decision making
  • relationship management

The accreditation, which took around 18 months to complete, resulted in the creation of a QMS with 14 procedures and four policies that each play a critical role in how the team approaches any task, from carrying out risk analysis on project proposals to internally auditing completed projects.

While obvious benefits of securing ISO accreditation include the creation of clear and efficient processes for the whole company to follow, Managing Director, Neil Shepherd, admits he was unsure just how tangible the improvements to their existing work processes would be.

“One of the most surprising outcomes of the process is the insight it gave our whole team into how our business operates.”

“I employ people who are specialists in their field, not MBAs, so to see the ISO process give our team a clearer understanding of our operating model and what it takes to open our doors each day has been really valuable; it’s given everyone a greater appreciation for how their job contributes to the bigger picture,” he said.
